BEDROOM REDESIGN (WAYS TO REINVENT OR REINVIGORATE YOUR BEDROOM)

by - October 08, 2019

When it comes to your home, your bedroom should be your calm space, your sanctuary. When the feeling of peace and contentment leave the space, you may find that relaxation and sleep are not far behind.

To regain the feeling of serenity that leads to rest, consider revitalizing your space. Reinvigorating your bedroom doesn’t have to be a costly prospect, and it doesn’t require a complete renovation either, but it can be just the thing you need to make your room feel like your personal haven.

Reinventing the space can be as simple as changing your bed linens or as complex as redecorating the entire room including the furnishings.

The first step is to decide what you want your space to look and feel like. Once you’ve made that decision, the fun of creating your own personal oasis can begin.

BEDROOM REDESIGN

Your furniture is the largest part of your bedroom space. Think about the look you want… does your furniture match your style? If not, purchasing pieces that fit your current style is an excellent way to revitalize your space.

Since the bed is typically the largest piece of furniture in the room, it’s a good starting point. Find a bed that is the size and style you want, and build your room around it.

Another way to revamp your furnishings is to refinish them. Wooden furnishings can be sanded and restained or even painted for a more casual look. Upholstered pieces can be reupholstered with updated, modern fabrics.

REDESIGN BEDROOM WALLS

The walls are the largest, most visible area in your room. They can be an asset or a detriment to the look you want. If your paint color is drab or boring, your space will be too. If your wallpaper has faded, it’s probably time to consider a change. For a serene space, choose paint or wallpaper that makes you feel calm.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to opt for a color that is considered neutral like beige or gray. You can add a splash of color, but you want it to be calming and give you a feeling of peace.

Pale blues, greens and lavenders are relaxing colors that work well in a bedroom space. Pale yellow gives a sunny feel to the space without being too bright and garish. Peach is another color that works well in a bedroom space.

If you’d rather have wallpaper, choose a pattern that seems soothing to you. An overly busy wallpaper can have the effect of keeping you awake rather than helping you relax. Patterns vary from florals to geometrics with a variety of choices in between.

Your wallpaper can dictate the overall feel of the room. Bold geometrics can give a masculine feel to the space while dainty florals feel more feminine.

Beyond the pattern, wallpaper also adds a touch of color, so choose a color that is pleasing to you as well. When using wallpaper, consider whether you want to paper all four walls, simply paper an accent wall, or use wallpaper in conjunction with a chair rail or other decorative molding element.

In addition to paint and wallpaper, decorative molding can add a touch of elegance to your space. Consider adding crown molding around the room at the ceiling.

Adding a chair rail gives you additional options for painting or wallpapering. If you already have molding, you might consider painting it an accent color or changing the stain to give a completely new look.

BEDROOM FABRICS

When you think of fabric in a bedroom, the obvious thought is bed linens. Fabrics are also present in upholstered furnishings, curtains, and even rugs. The fabrics you choose for your bedroom can really make a statement!

Lush, luxurious linens and drapes can give the impression of a room in a luxury spa or hotel… while simple, sustainable fabrics like cotton can give a more country feel to the room.

Use your fabrics to enhance the aesthetic of the space. Choose light, airy fabrics for spring or summer, and heavier, warmer fabrics for autumn or winter. If you have upholstered furniture that you don’t want to recover, you might consider purchasing a slipcover to try out a new look before you settle on one.

Slipcovers can be changed with the seasons, and so can curtains. Bed linens are also changeable with the seasons for more flexibility with the space.

Reinventing or reinvigorating your bedroom doesn’t have to be difficult, nor does it need to be expensive!

Just a few minor changes here or there can make your room feel brand new again. Let your personal style dictate your choices in your bedroom for a comfortable space that will feel like your own special sanctuary!
